Experts agree, “Eat the rainbow” for maximum health benefits - that goes for skincare too. Colors in food come from phytonutrients with specific benefits to the skin.

The Ancient soil of fulvic acid, chlorophyll from unrefined avocado oil and tamanu oil naturally color our “Black” Balm. What’s more, these natural pigments pack a punch to repair, reform, and recondition skin.

Our balm delivers a therapeutic dose of fulvic acid (our Fulvic Mineral Complex); 3.5%, the same amount used in research for eczema. In a clinical trial involving 36 participants with chronic eczema, fulvic acid worked much better than both placebo and traditional pharmaceutical medications. According to these findings, it was able to reduce overall severity, inflammation, and burning sensations (see Additional Resources for article).

The powerful components of our Black Balm:

Avocado oil
is rich in Vitamins A, B, C E, and K, potassium, and monounsaturated fatty acids like oleic acid. Naturally UV protective while enhancing DNA repair due to the high level of carotenoids. Able to increase water-soluble collagen content in the middle layer of the skin (dermis). In addition, the phytosterol content (a bioactive) supports the collagen and skin structure with helping to prevent age spots and cell wall weakening, calming inflammation and regenerating tissues, and protecting the barriers functions of the skin.

Black Cumin Seed oil,
or Nigella seed oil, or Black Seed Oil is an ancient treatment for psoriasis, eczema, sore joints, and dry skin. The seeds are packed with over 100 identified nutrients, including EFA, ALA, Zinc, Calcium, Folacin, Iron, Copper, and carotenes. It contains many bioactive components including thymoquinone, thymohydroquinone, dithymoquinone, thymol, carvacrol, nigellimine, nigellicine, nigellidine and alphahederin which have been studied extensively with many pharmacological effects, including antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic, acne, vitiligo, skin cancer, and percutaneous absorption.

Tamanu oil,
also known as Foraha, is an oil pressed from the nuts of a large tropical evergreen tree found throughout the Pacific basin. It is referred to as “green gold” in many cultures due to its deep green hue and incredible healing abilities. Tamanu absorbs deeply into all 3 layers of skin where it has been shown to rapidly regenerate new skin, repair nerves and diminish scarring. Calophyllolide (CP), a major constituent isolated from C. inophyllum, has been reported to have anti-inflammatory, anti-coagulant, anti-microbial, and even anti-cancer activities and is effective at wound healing.

Lavender essential oil
has been used for over 2500 years for medicinal, spiritual, and grooming purposes. According to ancient texts, it's been used to clean cuts, soothe bruises and skin irritations, as well as to scent the air and add fragrance to baths and laundry. It is a classic skin healer that is both calming to the skin and as well as the mind. Due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, it is a versatile oil that can help repair and treat all kinds of conditions, from acne to dry and aging skin.

Geranium essential oil
has a sweet, uplifting scent that is balancing and soothing. Used extensively for skincare it helps eliminate dead cells and promotes the regeneration of newer, healthier skin, benefiting all skin types. Given its astringent properties, it helps tighten the skin and diminish the appearance of the symptoms of aging, such as sagging and wrinkling skin.

Frankincense essential oil
is a well studied, ancient remedy for all things due to its aromatherapeutic benefits and active component boswellic acid. A potent anti-inflammatory and repairer of skin for all skin types. According to a review published in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, frankincense oil reduces redness and skin irritation, while also producing a more even skin tone. Studies suggest that it’s the pentacyclic triterpene (steroid-like, bioactive component of boswellic acid) structure of frankincense oil that contributes to its soothing effect on irritated skin.

Shea Butter
comes from the nut of the African Shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa). Shea butter contains Vitamins A, D, and E, which helps protect and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while keeping the skin looking firm and tight. Rich in phenolic compound cinnamic acid and high vitamin E, it is UV protective. Our Black Balm contains a raw, unrefined butter with all of the naturally occurring nutrients.

Candelilla Wax, euphorbia cerifera, is a vegetable wax from the wild Candelilla shrub. It helps protect skin from moisture loss while acting as a nourishing skin conditioner. It takes the place of Beeswax in our updated, vegan formula.

Fulvic Acid contains 74 plus active compounds; vitamins, minerals, organic acids, amino acids, and beneficial actives. Read more about our Fulvic Mineral Complex.

Why Balm, doesn’t Skin Fuel moisturize? Why Black? (dark green)

It just so happens that the best, most healing ingredients are deeply colored. Our Skin Fuel is great as an all-purpose everyday light moisturizer to maintain healthy skin. It sinks in quickly and even though it is an oil, is non-greasy. Black Balm, goes deeper into the skin, it’s richer, more nutrient-dense with powerful natural actives that help “treat” and heal the skin. In fact, these 2 products, Skin Fuel and Black Balm work beautifully together!

Tips

  • The natural pigments in fulvic acid and blue tansy may temporarily discolor rough, extra-dry skin (like calluses or dry cracked hands) until the skin is healed. Your skin is sending the message that it needs first aid and our Black Balm can help. If this occurs, try exfoliating thoroughly before applying.
  • For some protection in the Winter sun, apply directly to the face, with special attention on the nose, cheeks, and lips.
  • Mix a dab of Black Balm with a squirt of Skin Fuel to spread the balm over larger surfaces. This works very well for the face and body.
  • Combine a tiny dab of Mineral Toothpaste and Black Balm in hand and use it as a hair pomade (seems weird, but it works.)

How to use:

Use full strength directly on any areas of the skin that need extra conditioning - hands, arms, legs, face. Apply to damp skin for extra hydration. To smooth over larger areas, add some Skin Fuel.

Note:
the natural pigments in blue tansy and fulvic acid could accumulate in skin that is overly dry, rough, or damaged (eg. callouses). It is not permanent and will fade over time or can be removed through exfoliation or soap.

For the treatment of eczema, apply 2 x a day for 4 weeks.

Did you know?

  • Black seeds were found in Tutankhamun's tomb which signifies their antiquity and importance. Used internally and externally.
  • Drummers in Africa use shea butter traditionally for their hands and drumheads to condition their “skin(s)” and protect from cracks.
  • Frankincense resin can be burned, chewed, ingested, and applied to skin.

Black Balm

I have extremely sensitive skin that reacts to pretty much anything I come in contact with. I ordered black balm a year ago and it has helped to clear up countless rashes, a few burns, irritated itchy skin on my face, scalp, and entire body. I also use it on my face before walking/running in cold air. No more chapped skin! I’ve tried several other salves throughout my life, but black balm beats them all. The smell was initially difficult for me to handle since i wasn’t accustomed to it. Once I associated it with olives (which I love), it doesn’t bother me at all.

Pretty nice, not a cure-all

I like this balm - it feels nourishing to my skin, which seems to soak it up pretty well. I haven’t had as much success as I would have hoped using it on a few difficult spots on my hands, but it’s only been a couple weeks. I’m going to keep trying it on my hands and see how it goes over time. I like the fact that it contains absorbable trace minerals. I don’t mind the smell - in fact, I enjoy it. The balm in my jar wasn’t totally homogeneous when I received it. I don’t know if I should have stirred it upon reception; maybe that would have helped its effectiveness.

So happy to have it back in my life!

I ran out of Black Balm several months ago and spaced on reordering. Thrilled to get restocked! I used it for hair pomade and whenever my skin gets really dry or damaged. Will dray fall / winter coming up it is one of my go tos -- works excellent as a lip balm too.

Black Balm

The best my hands have felt after working all day at the hospital. Washing hands and using hand sanitizer a thousand times a day was harsh on my skin. I also found it helps soothe my skin when it gets irritated due to allergies. Thank you!

Skin Fuel, Black Balm, Mineral Toothpaste Powder

I went from regular tube toothpaste (💪 & 🔨) to the Mineral Toothpaste Powder. The transition was easy & I like the Mineral Toothpaste Powder better!

I got the Skin Fuel as an after shave. I’ll have to use it longer to properly comment on it, likewise for the Black Balm. I’m still trying to get used to the scent of both.
