Our Dr. Bass-inspired Toothbrush features a bristle layout designed to reach under the gums and the smaller handle allows for more gentle precision. A key to preventing and controlling gum disease is brushing around and under the gum line where bacteria and plaque accumulate.
Unlike most toothbrushes, our toothbrush encourages a light touch. Its shorter handle is designed to be held by just a few fingers vs a fist. Subtle, but important. And with an intentional design of fewer bristles — ours has 192 bristles vs the hundreds (sometimes thousands) found in typical brushes — it is far more effective at cleaning under the gumline.

Fingertip control encourages a lighter touch and offers greater precision. This makes it easier to direct the toothbrush head throughout your mouth and along the gumline where many oral health issues occur if not properly cared for.

Designed to work with The Bass Method
Way back in the 1940’s Dr. Charles C. Bass developed a simple yet highly effective method for brushing teeth referred to as “The Bass Method.” To this day it is viewed by most dentists as the best method for effectively brushing teeth and optimal oral health.

How to use

  1. Brush gently at a 45-degree angle using a light circular motion, paying close attention to getting under the gum line. This is known as The Bass Method — for a good video see here.

Note: While we are not fans of Colgate, this is nonetheless the best video we found — to see the video make sure to select “I am a dental professional”

Tips

  • Unlike ordinary toothbrushes, ours encourages a light touch. Its shorter handle is designed to be held by just a few fingers vs a fist. Using fingertips allows for greater precision and a lighter touch (brushing with a fist with force can lead to receding gums).
  • Sharing a bathroom with other Akamai users? A simple way to avoid confusion is to put initials at the base of each handle with a permanent marker.
  • After approx. 3 months you can snap off the head and compost the handle. The score near the base of the head makes it easy to snap off the head. Toss the head. Compost the handle. (Have trouble snapping off the head? Try using the edge of a counter for leverage.)

Q: Is there an optimal technique to use your toothbrush most effectively?

A: Our bamboo toothbrush is made to be used with the Bass Method (or Modified Bass Technique). It's designed to get under the gumline and help you brush using a gentle, light touch - its shorter handle is designed to be held by just a few fingers (index and next finger plus thumb) vs a fist. Harsh brushing causes all kinds of issues, from gum recession to the possibility of damaging your enamel.

Q: How do I use the Bass Method?

A: Brush gently at a 45-degree angle paying close attention to getting under the gumline. A good video to learn this proven, simple technique can be found here. (Note: while we are not fans of Colgate, this is nonetheless the best video we found - to see the video make sure to select “I am a dental professional”).

Bamboozle

Difficult to know for sure as so far ive not had a excellent report from my dentist. Its always, I know you love your bamboo toothbrush...but you need a sonic toothbrush for more plaque removal...so how do I win?

Brush review

After a couple of weeks of use I still don’t see the draw. Once the brush is wet it gives me an even more strange texture/taste in my mouth than the powder does.

Nice!

This toothbrush feels refreshing compared to the plastic, full-body bristles I've used.

Bamboo Bass Thoothbrush

It's a great toothbrush but too large for my mouth, my Denist has to use the kid trays when he makes molds of my mouth. No fault of yours. It would be perfect if you could make them smaller.

bamboo toothbrush

I much prefer this toothbrush over anything I can buy from Oral B or Colgate, etc. They actually hurt my gums and teeth. The bristle on the bamboo brush are firm but gentle. Great combo and so easily gets down to the gum line in a healthy way.

High quality toothbrush

The only reason I did not give this toothbrush a 5 star rating is that the part with all the bristles is a little on the big side (for my small mouth) and it sometimes triggers my gag reflex. The bristles are very soft and easy on my gums.
