How abrasive is Akamai Mineral Toothpowder — and effective at removing stains? Also, what is its RDA and CEI?

Akamai Mineral Toothpowder is ideally formulated to remove stains while protecting and preserving tooth enamel.

Akamai Mineral Toothpowder has an RDA of 81 a PCR (Pellicle Cleaning Ratio) of 182 and a CEI (Cleaning Efficiency Index) of 2.64 - rated as "extremely effective" in cleaning stains by an independent 3rd party lab*.

A high Cleaning Efficiency Index indicates high stain removal ability (high PCR) combined with low abrasivity (low RDA).

The Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA) is a scale developed by the American Dental Association, that uses a standard measurement to assess toothpaste abrasiveness. The higher the RDA score, the more abrasive than toothpaste. It ranges from 0 to 250.

Many see the Cleaning Efficiency Index as a superior indicator when looking at abrasiveness since it measures both abrasiveness and stain removal potential. The Cleaning Efficiency Index (CEI), is calculated according to the equation: CEI = (RDA + PCR – 50) ÷ RDA. The CEI emphasizes the importance of good stain removal properties and low dentin abrasivity.

*Akamai Mineral Toothpowder has been third-party tested by world-renowned Therametric Technologies, Inc.

Notes:

PCR: Pellicle Cleaning Ratio (ability of dentifrices to remove stains)

*The larger the value of the cleaning ratio, the greater the amount of stain pellicle removed by the test*

RDA: Relative Dentin Abrasivity (a standardized scale developed by the American Dental Association)

*Ranging from 0 to 250, the higher the score, the more abrasive the toothpaste*

CEI: Cleaning Efficiency Index

*Ranging from 0 to 2, the higher the score, the better the toothpaste*
